Thembakazi goes to Paris and to Crossroads

August 2006
It was a great pleasure to me for being part of the Childhood & Aids Conference in Paris as I'm working with kids. The conference was fruitful in a way that I've gained a lot on how to work with kids, like identifying orphans and vulnerable children and also how to intervene on certain cases as a social worker. I also share information with the mothers in the support group that in other countries there are no ARV's, infected people are dying with no help. I encouraged them to adhere to their treatment, because they seem to be the lucky people to have access to ARV's.

In countries like Kenya there are no grants; people are just suffering whereas here in South Africa at least government is offering HIV Positive people grants. The beadwork project has been initiated in Crossroads Clinic, what makes me feel happy is that the trainers are our mothers from Kidzpositive and that we all have become more involved in the project. This gives me more time to be with the mothers at Crossroads and motivate them about positive living. The adolescent support group is going on, but as a team we really need to work hard to modify this group, as it is not very easy to work with teenagers, it's even harder with teens living with HIV.

I'm personally looking for any place that offers training on how to run adolescent groups. The mothers that are attending night school are busy with their final examinations, we wish them good luck!
